Herbal powders are simple to make. If you have the time, you can use a mortar and pestle, but an electric or hand cranked coffee grinder only takes a minute or two. Just use a separate herb grinder from the one you use to grind coffee so your herbs don’t taste like coffee.
Powdered herbs lose their effectiveness fairly quickly, so only grind as much of the herb as you will be using for a week or two. After grinding the herbs, place them in a clean and dry airtight glass jar. Label the jar with the herb name and the date they were ground and store them in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator.
Herbal powders can be made into capsules, sprinkled on food or mixed into a smoothie. They can also be combined with dates and carob powder to make candy balls. This may be the best way to administer herbs to children who may not like the bitter taste of the herb. All herbs are different and contain different quantities of their various constituents. Please do your research to make sure the dosage is correct when using herbal powders.
