Herbs

Let's Learn about Herbs

We will learn the benefits of using herbs and which ones you should grow yourself. When appropriate for each particular herb, we will learn how to make herbal tinctures, salves, capsules, syrups, creamsoils, liniments, candies, powders, infusions and decoctions. We will also delve deeper into these basic recipes and turn them into soaps and aftershaves, mouthwashes and deodorants, facial serums, hydrosols and anything else our creative brains can come up with.

How will we learn about herbs?

This is a self-guided, hands-on course (because doing is the best way of learning) that you can begin at any time. Our lessons will start here each month where you can get the list of all of the materials and ingredients you will need to gather before we begin. Discover one herb every month and learn about it’s benefits, herbal actions, contraindications, growing tips and fun facts.

Each month we make herbal concoctions to gain practical experience using each specific herb. We have recipes and tutorial videos to teach you step by step how to plant, grow and harvest your herbs, or simply how to make herbal concoctions. Learn as much or as little about each herb as you like. Some herbs are fun to grow and look beautiful in the garden, while others will make your dinner taste like you spent all day in your kitchen. So . . . follow along at your own pace and have fun learning about herbs!

(This is not an accredited course, but is simply for fun and gaining knowledge that you can use every day.)

How to make an herbal scrapbook

Book on grass with white flowersl

We’ve worked so hard learning and concocting recipes, it would be a shame to not showcase our journey. If you are so inclined, you can follow along and make an herbal scrapbook that is sure to become a family heirloom to be enjoyed for generations to come.

We will be building this scrapbook concurrently with our herb lessons.  If you wish to create your own scrapbook, you will need the materials for the scrapbook found here.

We will make a post bound scrapbook book in this tutorial, because of the ease in adding pages. Our video lessons for the herbals scrapbook will include making book cloth, making the post binder cover using Polymer Clay. If you are already a master scrapbooker, all the better. You can give me some lessons too!
